MIKEY MILEOS - THEY'RE JUST WORDS
2011 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Review

Mikey Mileos' show is for the libertarians of society. They're Just Words explores what words we get offended by and why people's attitudes are detrimental to society and not the politically incorrect words. The show itself is politically incorrect, but that's just the point of it (he even keeps a gauge of how offensive his material is considered to be throughout the show). The show is part comedy and part history lesson, as he shows the audience how attitudes towards particular words have evolved through time.
As a result, the show's a little bit lighter on comedy, but he does well to keep people laughing despite the serious undertones of the show. The show manages a few big laughs though and the momentum and the comedy value of the show steadily builds as each new word he discusses is more heavily loaded than the last.
Mileos walks a fine tightrope of incorporating comedy while being serious enough to make a point, but he makes it to the other side and the audience is all the better for it.
